I am approaching 65yo and trying figuring transition from MatketPlace to Medicare. Discussed with a few broker about impact on PTAC if signing last month of Medicare Initial Enrollement Period because I reached Max Out Of Pocket and pay next to nothing . They all gave me a false sense of urgency and tried to scare me like, I am going to loose health coverage or will have to refund PTC bla bla bla. Then I had the pleasure to meet Heather from Alpine Advantage, I asked her to look at IRS publication 974 and read p9 exemple 1 of Ellen. She took the effort to read it and we agreed that as long as I enroll in Medicare during IEP I won’t loose PTC until covered by Medicare (rather than when eligible in birth’s month). She is the only broker that I met to understand the rule. Also she was not pushy on any specific coverage. Although I don’t take much drugs she warns me that if I went with Medicare Original I should sign for part D to avoid late enrollment penalties later which I was unaware and I am thankful for that.
